Brantôme has a good choice of restaurants, many of which overlook the river. For a special treat, why not book a table at the famous "Moulin de l’Abbaye"? The food is delicious and the setting is simply magnificent.Moulin de l’Abbaye [click to enlarge]
Ribérac [click to enlarge]Ribérac is a busy market town which, every Friday, hosts the largest market in the region. In both Ribérac and Brantôme, canoeing is available on the River Dronne. As well as being great fun, seeing the towns from the water gives you a different perspective of them.
Travelling from Brantôme to Ribérac, the road follows the River Dronne. As you approach the village of Bourdeilles, you pass under amazing rock formations. Bourdeilles is dominated by a château which is well worth visiting.Bourdeilles Château [click to enlarge]

Each feature of the amazing monolithic village church has been carved from stone - even the pulpit. Boat trips along the river from Aubeterre-sur-Dronne, Brantôme and Bergerac have all proved very popular with gîte guests.
Further to the south is the town of Périgueux - the administrative and commercial centre of the Dordogne. The town has a Roman settlement to visit and a charming old quarter, as well as excellent hypermarkets and interesting shops. There is also a golf course on the outskirts of the town.Aubeterre-sur-Dronne [click to enlarge]
Sarlat-la-Canéda [click to enlarge]The southern valleys of the Vezére and Dordogne rivers are famous for their many prehistoric sites and amazing caves, including the renowned Lascaux Cave. Situated between these two rivers is the town of Sarlat-la-Canéda which has many fabulous stone buildings which line narrow medieval streets. Heading back north, gîte guests have enjoyed visiting the wine-producing areas around Bergerac and the cognac distilleries east of Angoulême.
